I loved this hotel. A beautiful, large courtyard that’s the star of the property, renovated rooms with the cutest lemon and orange ceilings, and a real spa with an indoor pool.

I loved this hotel, and I preferred it to its sister property, the Hotel de la Ville.

The beautiful, large courtyard is really the star of the property. It’s where everyone gathers, between Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps, and it feels like an escape from the city around it.

The rooms have been renovated, and they have the cutest ceilings, each one either lemon or orange themed. There’s a nice spa with an indoor pool, and I saw a stunning suite with fantastic views.

01: I prefer it to its sister, the de la Ville. Both the de la Ville and the de Russie are Rocco Forte hotels near the Spanish Steps. For me the de Russie is the stronger stay, and the courtyard is a big part of why.
02: The street out front is busy. Step outside and you’re in the crowds between Popolo and the Steps. For a quiet street, the Eden, my top overall pick in Rome, is the one.
03: Compare the rest of Rome. The Bulgari for big rooms and energy, the Hassler for tradition above the Steps, La Minerva for a real Roman neighborhood and the St. Regis for spectacle.
04: Transfers and drivers, arranged. I arrange private transfers from Fiumicino or Termini station, drivers for days outside the city, and onward travel by fast train or car to Florence, Naples or the Amalfi Coast.
