The benchmark of wine country — Aman-level service, private cottages, and the property I measure every other Napa stay against.
There's something so special about Meadowood, and it's sort of hard to put your finger on it. Service is at Aman quality standards, with a real sense of place, spacious and fairly private cottages, a beautiful spa, and thoughtful turndown treats each evening.
It's a small property — around 40 cottages tucked into a private wooded estate above St. Helena — and there really isn't a bad room to be had. That combination of intimacy and polish is why it holds #01 in my Napa & Sonoma ranking after years of repeat stays across the valley.
Every time I go to Meadowood, I feel well taken care of — and I can't say that about every property on this list.
Service at Aman standards. The single biggest separator in wine country — you feel looked after from arrival to checkout.
The cottages. Spacious, private, and scattered through the estate's woods — around 40 keys total, with no bad rooms.
The tennis facility is a hidden gem. Beautiful courts with instructors I'd recommend in a heartbeat.
The details. Thoughtful turndown treats each evening, and a beautiful spa to build slow mornings around.
Mind the stairs. About 90% of rooms aren't fully accessible, though buggies are available for those with mobility concerns.
It skews a bit older. The property tends to attract 40+ couples, though there's a family pool and it works well solo too.
Book through a Virtuoso partner. The additional credit — often $500 — meaningfully changes the math on a multi-night stay.

Rates through me are identical to booking direct — the perks are not. Meadowood is a Fora / Virtuoso preferred partner, and booking through me often includes an additional $500 property credit on top of standard amenities like breakfast and upgrade priority.
