My home away from home — 20-plus stays in, the vineyard rooms and their fire pits still never get old.
I love the Montage and have stayed there at least 20 times over the past few years — more than any other hotel on my Napa & Sonoma list, which tells you most of what you need to know.
It's perfectly situated just outside downtown Healdsburg, close to wineries, with a complimentary shuttle to the plaza. The dining has perhaps the best view of any restaurant on this list, and I actually prefer the vineyard rooms over the mountain or oak rooms.
It's just a great property, and I feel lucky I've spent so many nights there.
Book a vineyard room. Waking up and sitting by your fire pit overlooking the vineyards never gets old — my clear pick over the mountain and oak categories.
The best restaurant view on my list. Dinner looks out over the vines and hills — no other wine country dining room matches it.
They remember you. One masseuse in particular I make a point to see every time I go — the returning-guest experience is real.
The Healdsburg shuttle. Complimentary rides to the plaza mean nobody argues about who's driving home from dinner.
Twenty stays in, I notice the small things. A few more little misses lately than in year one — nothing that moves it from my top three, and the team always makes it right.
Choose your room category deliberately. Vineyard rooms are the property's magic; the others are lovely but miss the signature view.
Healdsburg is Sonoma, not Napa. A more relaxed, less commercial base — my preference, but know which valley you're signing up for.
It's just a great property, and I feel lucky I've spent so many nights there.
Rates through me are identical to booking direct — the perks are not. Montage Healdsburg is a Fora / Virtuoso preferred partner, and booking through me sometimes includes a third or fourth night free on top of standard amenities like breakfast and upgrade priority.
