Iconic California wine country design — private gardens, a laid-back energy, and rates that undercut the hotels above it.
Solage is sort of iconic — it really defines California wine country luxury, and the design still holds up as the template half the newer properties are chasing.
It sits at #04 on my Napa & Sonoma list mostly on polish: the experience is intentionally more relaxed than the white-glove properties above it, and the spa — a signature here — is due some love. I love the design, and most rooms have a private garden or terrace, some with private hot tubs.
The math works in its favor: rates run lower than the top three, making it one of the strongest cost-to-experience options in the valley.
Real privacy. If you need a completely private terrace or garden, Solage is one of the best options on my entire list — some rooms add private hot tubs.
The design. Iconic Calistoga-modern that defined the look of California wine country luxury.
The value. Rates run meaningfully lower than the properties above it — strong cost-to-experience.
The energy. Younger, more relaxed, and less formal than the top of the list — a feature, not a bug, for the right trip.
Set spa expectations. The spa is a big part of the Solage story and is due for a refresh — worth knowing as you plan treatments.
The vibe is relaxed, not white-glove. A more casual service style than Meadowood or Four Seasons — a feature for some trips, a trade-off for others.
Calistoga base. The far north end of the valley — quieter, hot-springs country, and a longer drive from southern Napa wineries.
A fantastic hotel — just not quite at the level of the three above it.
Rates through me are identical to booking direct — the perks are not. Solage is a Fora / Virtuoso preferred partner, and booking through me sometimes includes a third or fourth night free on top of standard amenities like breakfast and upgrade priority.
