The Dolli

The city's most beautiful view — a restored neoclassical mansion staring straight at the Acropolis.

Few hotels have transformed Athens' luxury scene like The Dolli. Housed inside a restored neoclassical mansion overlooking the Acropolis, it blends residential elegance with impeccable service and one of the most spectacular rooftop pools in Europe.

Every space feels thoughtfully curated, making it as much a design destination as it is a hotel. If someone asks me where to splurge in Athens, The Dolli is usually my first answer — between the rooftop, the location, and the design, it's one of the most memorable hotel experiences in Greece.

It's also where I start my own Athens itineraries: day one of my three perfect days in the city ends with rooftop cocktails overlooking the Parthenon, and on my sample honeymoon itinerary the welcome dinner happens on this exact rooftop.

What Stood Out

The Details That Made The List

The rooftop is reason enough to slow down. Whether it's cocktails before dinner or a leisurely breakfast the next morning, The Dolli's view of the illuminated Parthenon is worth saving a whole evening for.

The Acropolis Junior Suite is the room I'd book. Wake up to uninterrupted views of the Parthenon from one of the city's most coveted addresses.

A design destination in its own right. The restored mansion feels residential and curated everywhere you look — this is where I send design lovers first.

Know Before You Book

The Fine Print, From Someone Who's Been

It's a city splurge, not a resort. Rates start around $900 a night. If you want beach and resort grounds, pair it with Four Seasons Astir Palace on the Riviera.

Give Athens at least two full days. Don't rush through on your way to the islands — the city has some of Greece's best hotels, restaurants, and cultural experiences.

Eat beyond the tourist center. I had my favorite gyros in all of Greece in Kallithea, a short taxi from the hotel — a reminder that Athens' best food is found well beyond Plaka.

If someone asks me where to splurge in Athens, The Dolli is usually my first answer.
