Treating the ferry like a train
Greek ferries are wonderful — and they answer to the sea, not the timetable. In July and August the meltemi wind sweeps the Aegean, and sailings get delayed or cancelled with a few hours’ notice. Couples who booked the last boat of the day, on the last day of the trip, learn this the hard way.
Do this instead
Book morning departures on the fast boats, reserve seats the moment your dates are set for summer travel, and fly any leg where a flight exists. The sea is for lazy afternoons, not tight connections.
