Head-to-head · Rome
The two Rome hotels I actually slept in. One is my top pick in the city, on a quiet street above the Spanish Steps; the other has the warmest team I met in Rome, by the Pantheon. Here is how I would choose.
Stayed at both · October 2026
My top overall pick in Rome and one of my top three stays in all of Italy. Anticipatory service, bright rooms with real views, and a quiet street to come home to.
My Hotel Eden review →
The warmest shared spaces and the friendliest team I found in Rome, steps from the Pantheon. I felt like I could be myself here.

Hotel Eden is polish and calm. The service is a step ahead the whole time, the rooms are bright, and you come home to a quiet residential street above the Spanish Steps. It is my top overall pick in Rome.
La Minerva is personality. The restaurant upstairs, the bar downstairs and the lobby all have a real buzz, and the team is the warmest I met in Rome. Step outside and you are by the Pantheon, in the city as Romans actually live it.
If you are younger and want energy, pick La Minerva. If you are older, or you want more polish and calm, pick the Eden. And if you are riding La Dolce Vita, I put you at La Minerva first.

The rooms at Hotel Eden are modern and traditional at once, beautifully decorated and bright, with incredible views over the rooftops. Evenings bring sunset over the dome of St. Peter’s. The top suites are spacious on their own and can be connected for families or two couples traveling together.
The views around La Minerva are more authentic Rome than pristine Rome: neighborhood rooftops and lived-in streets. I love that, and it is part of the hotel’s charm. If the postcard view matters most, the Eden wins.

Both hotels put their best room at the top. At La Minerva, the rooftop restaurant is where I would spend the evening, looking over the domes and rooftops of the centro storico, then head down to the bar and lobby, shared spaces you actually want to sit in.
At Hotel Eden, the restaurant upstairs was fantastic, and the view across the domes is the one I send couples to on their first evening in Rome. The concierge sorted my dinner reservations elsewhere without any back and forth.

Hotel Eden is anticipatory: warm, personal and a step ahead the whole time. I had the fastest coffee I have ever had delivered there, out of all my stays in Italy and maybe all my stays ever. It tells you everything about how the team runs.
La Minerva is warm in a more relaxed way. I shared a great laugh with the woman who checked me in, and that set the tone for the whole stay. Small thing: the best slippers of my whole trip. I actually kept them.

La Minerva is on Piazza della Minerva by the Pantheon, in a real part of the city, and I really appreciated that compared with a lot of its competitors. La Dolce Vita journeys start in Rome, so it is where I put clients the night before the train.
Hotel Eden sits on a calm street above the Spanish Steps, close to everything. It is a gentle rise from the centro, so wear the right shoes home from dinner. I arrange private transfers from Fiumicino or Termini for both hotels.
For most travelers, Hotel Eden. It is my top overall pick in Rome and one of my top three stays in all of Italy. If you are younger and want energy and a real Roman neighborhood, La Minerva is a great hotel.
La Minerva, for the warmest shared spaces and the friendliest team I met in Rome. Older travelers, or anyone after more polish and calm, usually feel more at home at the Eden.
Hotel Eden, with incredible views over the rooftops and sunset over St. Peter’s. The views around La Minerva are lived-in Rome. I love that, but the Eden has the postcard.
La Minerva. La Dolce Vita journeys start in Rome, and I put clients at La Minerva first, then onto the train.
Hotel Eden. Its top suites can be combined into larger configurations for families or two couples traveling together. Ask me and I will map out what is possible.
At Hotel Eden: a space-available upgrade, daily breakfast and a hotel credit. At La Minerva: daily breakfast for two, a $100 USD hotel credit, an upgrade on arrival, early check-in or late check-out when available and a VIP welcome; Signature Suite bookings can also include a 50-minute massage for two. Rates are the same as booking direct.
Tell me your dates, who is coming and whether the train is part of it, and I will tell you which one fits.
