Orient Express La Minerva review

Real Rome, Steps From The Pantheon · The Warmest Team I Met In Rome

The warmest shared spaces and the friendliest team I found in Rome, in a real Roman neighborhood by the Pantheon. A great hotel for younger travelers.

The review

The warmest shared spaces in Rome, in a hotel in a real Roman neighborhood, where I felt like I could be myself.

For me, La Minerva’s shared spaces were the highlight. The restaurant upstairs, the bar downstairs, the lobby, and above all the service and warmth of the people who work there. I felt like I could be myself here, and I actually shared a great laugh with the woman who checked me in.

The views around the hotel are more authentic Rome than beautiful, pristine Rome. I think that’s part of its charm: it’s a hotel in a real part of the city, by the Pantheon, and I really appreciated that compared with a lot of its competitors.

If you’re younger, it’s a great hotel. If you’re older or want more polish and calm, I’d gravitate toward the Hotel Eden.

What stood out

The details that made the list

01
The people. Warm, funny and relaxed. The check-in set the tone for the whole stay.
02
The restaurant upstairs. The rooftop is where I’d spend the evening, looking over the domes and rooftops of the centro storico.
03
The bar and lobby downstairs. Shared spaces you actually want to sit in, with a real buzz to them.
04
A real Roman neighborhood. Step out by the Pantheon into the city as Romans actually live it.
05
The best slippers of the whole trip. I actually kept them.

The Fine Print, From Your Advisor

01
The views are lived-in Rome. Expect neighborhood rooftops and lived-in Rome around you. I love that, but if the postcard view matters most, ask me about the Eden.
02
Who it suits best. Younger travelers and couples who want energy and a bit of personality. Older travelers usually feel more at home at the Hotel Eden.
03
Riding La Dolce Vita? Journeys start in Rome, so I put clients at La Minerva first. Here’s how I put the train and the two Orient Express hotels together.
04
Compare the rest of Rome. The de Russie for the garden, the St. Regis for spectacle, and the new Corinthia for the showstopper renovation.
05
Transfers and drivers, arranged. I arrange private transfers from Fiumicino or Termini station, drivers for days outside the city, and onward travel by fast train or car to Florence, Naples or the Amalfi Coast.

And someone who knows the hotel.

Work with me and you get two things: Fora perks, and someone who knows La Minerva personally. My clients typically get daily breakfast for two, a $100 USD hotel credit, an upgrade on arrival and early check-in or late check-out when available, plus a VIP welcome. Signature Suite bookings can also include a 50-minute massage for two. I know the property and the team, so I personalize your stay, from the room I request to what’s arranged before you arrive, and I’m your direct line to them while you’re there. Rates are identical to booking direct.
