Fine print on both: consistency at Carneros varies — some stays flawless, others less so — which is exactly why booking through me means someone is watching your file. At Stanly Ranch, terrace privacy varies by room; I’ll steer you to the best-sited ones. Both sit at the south end, convenient to Napa and Sonoma alike.

The postcard or the statement.
Carneros is the one with the unmistakable wine country feel — and with a renovation, I honestly think it moves several spots up my list. In the meantime, book it for what it does beautifully: space, privacy, and the two-bedroom residences that are the best product on the property.
Stanly Ranch is the statement piece — the architecture, the spa, the fire pits — though I don’t find myself wanting to go back as often as the hotels above it, because the marshes never quite deliver the postcard.
