Head-to-head · Dolomites
Two mountain hotels for an active trip. One is the most luxurious hotel in the Dolomites, in a village made for skiing and hiking; the other puts the trails and slopes right outside your room. Here is how I would choose.
Stayed at COMO Alpina · Toured Aman Rosa Alpina · October 2026
The most luxurious hotel in the Dolomites, as good for families as for couples, with the lifts about two minutes away by shuttle. Book a suite.
My Aman Rosa Alpina review →
The only true ski-in, ski-out hotel I saw, with big views over the Alpe di Siusi, a spa and pool that hold their own, and a lower price.
My COMO Alpina review →
| Aman Rosa Alpina | COMO Alpina | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | In the village of San Cassiano, Alta Badia | On the Alpe di Siusi meadows, just over the mountain from Ortisei |
| The feel | Classic Aman: warm wood, marble and calm | Mountain wellness hotel, very mountain in style |
| The view | Intimate: the forest, the village and the peaks above | Big: rolling meadows with peaks towering all around |
| Rooms | The suites are the reason to come | Very spacious, with big decks, large bathrooms and tubs |
| Room to ask for | A suite | Ask me first: a chairlift runs right outside the Mountain View rooms |
| Skiing | A ski room, and the lifts about two minutes away by shuttle | True ski-in, ski-out; my first choice for a ski trip |
| Hiking | A fantastic spot for hiking nearby | The trails start at your door; tied with Gardena for summer |
| Spa and gym | A lovely spa, and a gym tied for the best in the Dolomites | A spa and pool on par with the best in the region |
| Families | As good for families as it is for couples | One of my picks for families too |
| Level and price | My pick for the best luxury property in the region | Not quite at Aman’s level, but the price reflects that |
| Best for | Overall luxury, families, skiers and hikers | Skiers, hikers, wellness and value |
Work with me and you get Fora perks, plus someone who knows these hotels personally and personalizes your stay: I confirm the winter minimum stays at Aman, steer you to the right room at COMO Alpina, sort the Alpe di Siusi permit, and arrange the drivers and mountain guides. Same rate as booking direct.
Aman Rosa Alpina is the most luxurious hotel in the Dolomites, in a fantastic spot for skiing and hiking, and as good for families as it is for couples. The suites are the star. The views are more intimate than dramatic.
COMO Alpina’s huge selling point is location: you walk out of your room onto the trails in summer and the slopes in winter. It is not quite the hotel Aman is, but the price reflects that, and the spa and pool hold their own against all of them.
If the hotel itself matters most, pick Aman. If you want to ski from your door, or you want one of the best locations in the region for less, pick COMO Alpina. For a ski trip, it is my first choice in the Dolomites.

COMO Alpina is the only true ski-in, ski-out hotel of the five I saw, the best on my list by a distance. In summer the trails start at your door, and it ties with Gardena Grödnerhof as my best summer location. The Alpe di Siusi is a protected area, so cars need a permit; the hotel handles it, and a private transfer avoids the question.
Aman Rosa Alpina is not ski-in, ski-out, but there is a ski room and the lifts are about two minutes away by shuttle, and the location is fantastic for hiking too. One thing to know: San Cassiano was a ghost town in October. Come in winter or summer, when it is buzzing.

The suites at Aman Rosa Alpina are the reason to come, with beautiful views of the forest, the village and the mountains above. Those views are intimate; if a sweeping panorama is the point, Aman itself is not the place.
COMO Alpina has the big views: rolling meadows with mountains towering all around. The rooms are spacious, with beautiful decks, large bathrooms and tubs. Mind the chairlift right outside the Mountain View rooms, which can feel a little loud and not very private in the shoulder season. Tell me how you are traveling and I will steer you to the right room.

Aman Rosa Alpina has a lovely spa, and its gym ties with Gardena Grödnerhof’s for the best in the Dolomites.
COMO Alpina leans into wellness, like most COMO properties, and the spa and pool stack up very nicely against every hotel I saw. Expect German and Austrian sauna culture at both: the main saunas are mixed, and swimsuits come off.

Service in the lobby restaurant at Aman Rosa Alpina was fantastic. Two small things surprised me: some of the original walls of the former hotel show their age, and our arrival was a little awkward. Everything after was excellent. It is still my pick for the best luxury property in the region.
At COMO Alpina, dining was solid, and we had a very nice dinner in the formal restaurant, where our servers were great. Service elsewhere was good, if a little awkward at times. You trade some polish for one of the best locations in the Dolomites at a lower price.
It depends on the trip. Aman Rosa Alpina is the most luxurious hotel in the Dolomites and my pick for the best luxury property. COMO Alpina has the better location if you want to ski or hike from your door, and it costs less.
COMO Alpina. It is the only true ski-in, ski-out hotel I saw, and my first choice for a ski trip. Aman Rosa Alpina has a ski room and and the lifts about two minutes away by shuttle.
Both. Aman Rosa Alpina is as good for families as it is for couples, and COMO Alpina is also one of my picks for families, alongside Gardena Grödnerhof.
COMO Alpina, with the meadows and the peaks all around. The views at Aman Rosa Alpina are beautiful but intimate: the forest, the village and the mountains above.
At Aman Rosa Alpina, a suite. They are the reason to stay. At COMO Alpina, tell me how you are traveling first; in the shoulder season I would avoid the Mountain View rooms, because of the chairlift right outside.
For Aman Rosa Alpina, winter or summer, when San Cassiano has life in it. The hotel told me there is a seven-night minimum in winter, but sample searches don’t show it, so I confirm the rules first. COMO Alpina is my first choice for winter and ties for summer.
Tell me your dates and who is coming, and I will tell you which one fits and which room to ask for.
