Miramonti is a nice, unique property with an iconic pool, close to Merano. It isn’t at the level of the region’s top hotels as a luxury experience, but it is a great hotel for someone who values personality, the pool and the views over polish.
If service and finish matter most, pick Aman. If the pool and the views are the point, pick Miramonti. It is an easy first or last stop, especially if you are coming from or heading toward Lake Como or Switzerland.
Aman Rosa Alpina sits in San Cassiano, with views of the forest, the village and the mountains above. They are beautiful and intimate; you won’t get the dramatic panoramas of Forestis, COMO Alpina or Miramonti.
Miramonti looks out over the valley and Merano. Merano isn’t really in the Dolomites the way the other hotels I saw are: it is a spa town with a gentler climate and big views.

Aman Rosa Alpina has a lovely spa with an indoor pool, and its gym ties with Gardena Grödnerhof’s for the best in the Dolomites.
Miramonti’s infinity pool is the best outdoor pool of any hotel I saw in the region, and it is the reason people come. Expect German and Austrian sauna culture at both: the main saunas are mixed, and swimsuits come off.
Service in the lobby restaurant at Aman Rosa Alpina was fantastic. Two small things surprised me: some of the original walls show their age, and our arrival was a little awkward. It is not ski-in, ski-out, but there is a ski room and the lifts are about two minutes away by shuttle. Come in winter or summer; San Cassiano was a ghost town in October.
Miramonti is character over polish. For hiking among the famous peaks, base yourself in Ortisei or on the Alpe di Siusi, and treat Miramonti as the stay for the pool and the views.
