If you want the caldera done exactly right
Four properties, one family since the 80s, and two of the three best hotels I saw in all of Greece. Canaves Oia Suites is the best hotel on the island for a first Santorini trip; Epitome, a short walk away near Ammoudi, was my favorite hotel across nine Cycladic islands — and the one that works for families. Ena is the way in, and Sunday is the buyout.

If you want a water feature in every single room
Four Santorini properties with a rule Canaves doesn’t make: a plunge pool, jacuzzi or private pool in every room, at every property, no exceptions. Boutique has the authentic cave suites people picture when they book Santorini, Luxury Suites has Lycabettus, Concept has the best spa I saw on the island, and Arcadia is the only true resort either family runs.

Two planning notes: Canaves Oia Suites is 13+, and Andronis steers families to Arcadia, so if you’re traveling with younger kids the real shortlist is Canaves Epitome or Andronis Arcadia — next-door neighbors, opposite trips.

Canaves wins the top of the list. Andronis wins room for room.
If you only get one Santorini trip, I’d start with Canaves. Oia Suites is the best hotel I saw on the island for first-time visitors — set higher on the Caldera than most, which buys the one thing money usually can’t here, privacy — and Epitome was my favorite hotel across nine islands, with the best sunset in Greece and no age restrictions. Those are the two seats Canaves holds in my Greece Top 10, and the River Pool Suite at Oia Suites was the single best suite I saw across 38 hotels.
But Andronis makes a promise Canaves doesn’t: a water feature in every room, at every property. If the picture in your head is a plunge pool on a cave terrace at 8am, Boutique delivers it more reliably and usually a few hundred a night below Oia Suites. Andronis also owns the two specialists — Concept for the spa, Arcadia for kids and a bit of a scene. Practically, the choice usually resolves on one question: are you booking the hotel, or booking the room?
