The review

Privacy, light and the Grand Canal.

Aman Venice serves a different purpose from the big resort-style hotels. It is smaller, and it is about privacy and the classic Aman style of service and features that make it feel like Aman.

I loved the natural light, the gardens outside on the canal and the understated restoration of the building: original frescoes, silk walls and painted ceilings, with calm modern furniture beneath them. Twenty-four rooms means the team knows you.

My meeting with the general manager, Licinio Garavaglia, was a highlight. He is genuinely a fantastic person, and I know he will take great care of my clients.

What stood out

Why it feels like Aman

01
The natural light. Tall windows on the Grand Canal fill the rooms with light, and the restoration lets it fall on the original details.
02
Gardens on the canal. A rare thing in Venice: private gardens at the water’s edge, with the bar looking over them.
03
An understated restoration. Nothing is overdone. The palazzo’s frescoes and stucco do the talking.
04
The service. Twenty-four rooms and a general manager who cares. This is where Aman is at its best.
The apartments

For families and small groups

01
Coccina’s Apartment. On the fourth floor, reached by a private elevator: three bedrooms across 290 square meters (3,122 square feet), each with its own bathroom, plus a private living room, frescoes and views over the Grand Canal and the Canal Garden.
02
The Grand Canal Apartment. Three bedrooms across 226 square meters (2,432 square feet). The Grand Canal Suite has large picture windows and an arched filigree window over the water; another bedroom faces south over the garden.
Know before you book

The fine print, from your advisor

01
There is no pool. The spa is small. If a pool or a big spa matters, look at Airelles Palladio.
02
Pair it with the Dolomites. Aman offers two nights at Aman Venice and three at Aman Rosa Alpina, with transfers included. I can also arrange a helicopter; the nearest helipad is about eight minutes away. See the Aman Venice + Aman Rosa Alpina journey →
03
Ask for the piano nobile. The noble floor, one level above the ground floor, has the highest ceilings.
04
Three nights is the sweet spot. Long enough for the city, the islands and a few long lunches.
