Hotel Hassler Roma review

Michelin Starred Dining On The Roof

A very nice, very traditional luxury hotel right above the Spanish Steps, with Michelin-starred dining on the roof and a beautiful courtyard restaurant. Just know the area is busy, and the new wellness and gym area won’t open until 2027.

The review

The Hassler is a very nice luxury hotel, right at the top of the Spanish Steps.

It’s a very traditional hotel, and that’s the appeal. The dining is a highlight, with a Michelin-starred restaurant on the roof and a beautiful restaurant in the courtyard.

The location is about as central as Rome gets, which also means it’s a busy area. You step out the door and you’re in the crowds at the Steps.

The details that made the list

01
Right above the Spanish Steps. You can’t get much more iconic, or more central.
02
Michelin-starred dining on the roof. With the rooftops of Rome laid out below you.
03
The courtyard restaurant. Beautiful, and a calmer place to eat than the streets outside.
04
A very traditional hotel. Classic luxury, for travelers who want Rome’s grand-hotel style.
Know before you book

The Fine Print, From Your Advisor

01
It’s a busy area. The Steps draw crowds from morning to night. If you want quiet, the Eden is a few minutes away on a calm residential street.
02
Wellness is coming in 2027. The Hassler is building a large new wellness and gym area that opens in 2027. Until then, if a spa and gym matter, look at the Bulgari or the Corinthia.
03
Compare the rest of Rome. The de Russie for the garden, La Minerva for a real Roman neighborhood and the St. Regis for spectacle.
04
Transfers and drivers, arranged. I arrange private transfers from Fiumicino or Termini station, drivers for days outside the city, and onward travel by fast train or car to Florence, Naples or the Amalfi Coast.
