La Minerva or the Corinthia?

Two very different reasons to love a Rome hotel. One won me over with its people, by the Pantheon; the other blew me away the moment I walked in, across from parliament. Here is how I would choose.

Choose La Minerva

If you want warmth and a real neighborhood

The friendliest team I met in Rome, a rooftop restaurant and a buzzing bar, in a real Roman neighborhood by the Pantheon.

Choose Corinthia

If you want space, quiet and a spa

A showstopper renovation, large rooms, a beautiful spa, and a quiet, incredibly safe street across from parliament. Truly a game changer for Rome.

Best forYounger travelers, social couples, La Dolce Vita passengersSpace, a real spa and a central, quiet base

The question behind the question

Do you want a hotel with a buzz, or a quiet base with room to spread out?

La Minerva won me over with its people. I shared a great laugh at check-in, the shared spaces have a real buzz, and the views are authentic Rome more than pristine Rome. That is part of its charm.

The Corinthia blew me away. It is across the street from parliament, so the area is incredibly safe and quiet while still in the middle of everything, and the renovation is a showstopper.

If you are younger and want energy and a real neighborhood, pick La Minerva. If you want space, a real spa and quiet, pick the Corinthia.

What to know before you choose

Space

Space is hard to come by in central Rome. The rooms at the Corinthia are large and tastefully appointed, and that alone puts it in the conversation with the city’s classics.

At La Minerva, the highlight of my stay was the shared spaces. If a big room is the priority, the Corinthia wins.

Shared spaces

The restaurant upstairs, the bar downstairs and the lobby at La Minerva are spaces you actually want to sit in, with a real buzz. Above all, it is the warmth of the people who work there.

The Corinthia’s spa and public spaces are beautiful, and big enough that the hotel never feels crowded. It is calm where La Minerva is social.

Quiet or buzz

The Corinthia is across the street from parliament, safe and quiet, and walkable to everything. Inside, bathrooms are onyx and marble.

La Minerva is by the Pantheon, in a real part of the city. Step outside into Rome as Romans actually live it.

Booking

The Corinthia is new, so book with someone who knows it. Room categories and views vary, and I will steer you to the right one.

At La Minerva, my clients typically get daily breakfast for two, a $100 USD hotel credit, an upgrade on arrival and a VIP welcome. It is also where I put clients before La Dolce Vita, which starts in Rome.
