Villa Treville or Borgo Santandrea?

Two hotels that feel like nowhere else on the coast. One is an eclectic private estate just outside Positano; the other is very modern, above Conca dei Marini. Here is how I would choose.

Choose Villa Treville

If you want a private estate near Positano

Probably the most private rooms in Positano, no two alike, eclectic art, warm service and three boats with free shuttles into town.

Work with me and you get Fora perks, plus someone who knows these hotels personally and personalizes your stay: I match you to the right room at Villa Treville, steer you away from the overlooked pool rooms at Borgo Santandrea, and arrange the boats and transfers. Same rate as booking direct.

The question behind the question

How much does privacy matter?

Villa Treville has probably the most private rooms in all of Positano. It feels more like a private estate on the cliffs than a hotel, and every room is completely different.

Borgo Santandrea is spectacular and very modern, with a proper beach. But its private pool rooms are not that private: you can look down on your neighbors, and they can look down on you.

If privacy is the point, pick Villa Treville. If you want a modern statement and a real beach, pick Borgo Santandrea, and let me choose the room.

Rooms

At Villa Treville, every room is completely different, so the match matters. Tell me your style and I will get you into the right one. The suite with the outdoor tub and shower is a standout, with one of the coolest showers I have ever seen: a rain shower falling from an old brick dome.

At Borgo Santandrea, the rooms are very modern. Think twice before booking one with a private pool, because they are overlooked. Tell me what matters to you and I will request the right room.

Beaches and boats

Villa Treville has a beach club on the rocks, right on the water, and three stunning boats with free shuttles into Positano.

Borgo Santandrea has a beautiful, massive, proper beach. The sun leaves the water early, so in the fall your swim time ends around 4:30 or 5pm. Come in May to June, or September.

Service and food

Service at Villa Treville was fantastic and warm, from people who clearly love the place. The spa is in an iron-and-glass garden pavilion that opens to the sea.

At Borgo Santandrea, service is refined but warm, and dinner at Alici is fantastic.

Villa Treville sits on the cliffs just outside Positano, a boat ride from town, so you get the privacy and the scene when you want it.

Borgo Santandrea is above Conca dei Marini, just along the coast from Amalfi, on the quieter side of the coast.
