Il San Pietro or Villa Treville?

For me, these are the two best options in Positano. Both sit on the cliffs just outside town, both are very private, and both have the boats to get you in. Here is how I would choose.

Visited both · October 2026

Choose Il San Pietro

The classic, done properly

Bright nautical rooms, every one with a sea view, a beach club that keeps the afternoon sun, and the iconic tennis court.

Choose Villa Treville

For a private estate with personality

Probably the most private rooms in Positano, no two alike, eclectic art, warm service and three boats. Maybe slightly better value.

The question behind the question

Classic, or one of a kind?

There is no wrong answer here. Il San Pietro is the classic: consistent, bright, nautical rooms, and you choose sunrise or sunset.

Villa Treville is the one-of-a-kind: every room is very different, not just a little different, and the art is so cool and eclectic, but it really works. It is maybe slightly better value.

If you know what you like, tell me, and I will tell you which one and which room.

What to know before you choose

An Il San Pietro bedroom with blue-striped tiles and sliding doors to a private sea-view terrace

Rooms: consistent, or one of a kind

At Il San Pietro, every room is impeccably kept and has a sea view. Choose the sunrise or the sunset side. Base rooms are fantastic; Signature and Prestige give you more space.

At Villa Treville, every room is completely different, so the match matters. The suite with the outdoor tub and shower is a standout, with one of the coolest showers I have ever seen.

Beach clubs and boats

Il San Pietro’s beach club is on the sunset side, so in the fall you keep swimming after most of the coast loses the sun around 4:30 or 5pm. Guests also get a complimentary 2-hour yacht cruise.

Villa Treville has a beach club on the rocks, right on the water, and three stunning boats with free shuttles into Positano.

Beyond the room

Il San Pietro has the iconic tennis court, #1 in my hotel tennis court ranking, and Michelin-starred dining.

Villa Treville has a spa in an iron-and-glass garden pavilion that opens to the sea, and a gym that looks straight out over the water.

Getting there

Both are outside town, so both work beautifully by boat. A transfer from Naples or Salerno is practical and enjoyable, and the nearest helipad is in Scala, close to Ravello. Reach out and I will handle it.
