Le Sirenuse or Villa Treville?

Two very different Positano stays. Le Sirenuse is lively and right in the middle of town; Villa Treville is a private estate on the cliffs just outside it. Here is how I would choose.

Choose Villa Treville

My pick of the two

Probably the most private rooms in Positano, every one different, warm service, three boats and free shuttles into town.

The question behind the question

Do you want to be in it, or above it?

Le Sirenuse puts you in the middle of Positano. That is either a selling point or a sore point, depending on who you are.

Villa Treville gives you the privacy instead. It feels like a private estate on the cliffs, not a hotel, and that is exactly the point.

Getting into town from Villa Treville is very easy on its boats, so you are not really giving anything up. You are gaining the quiet.

The detail

What to know before you choose

A sunlit Le Sirenuse lounge with a large painting, palms and majolica tiles

Design: formal, or eclectic

At Le Sirenuse, the artwork around the property is stunning, and the lookout over the dome is truly stunning. Service is very formal; you come to see and be seen.

At Villa Treville, the art is cool and eclectic, but it really works. Service is warm, and the team is just outstanding.

Rooms

At Le Sirenuse, book only a true sea-view room or suite. The rest either face the courtyard, or sit right on top of the pool, which is loud.

At Villa Treville, every room is completely different. Tell me your style and I will match you. The suite with the outdoor tub and shower is a standout.

Beach clubs and boats

Le Sirenuse has a new beach club with complimentary boats at 10:30 and 12:30, and a sunset cruise you must book in advance.

Villa Treville has a beach club on the rocks right on the water, and three boats with free shuttles into Positano.

Getting there

A boat transfer from Naples or Salerno is practical and enjoyable at Il San Pietro and Villa Treville, and I arrange the private transfer to Le Sirenuse. The nearest helipad is in Scala, close to Ravello. Reach out and I will handle all of it.

Before you ask

The questions I get

Which is better, Le Sirenuse or Villa Treville?

If you want privacy and quiet, Villa Treville. If you want to walk into town, Le Sirenuse. Getting into Positano from Villa Treville is easy on the hotel’s own boats, so being outside town is more of a plus than a minus.

Which is more private?

Villa Treville, by a long way. It has probably the most private rooms in Positano. Le Sirenuse is right in the middle of town and is lively by design.

Which room should I book at each?

At Le Sirenuse, only a true sea-view room or suite. At Villa Treville, every room is different, so tell me your style and I will match you.

Which has the better beach club?

Both are good. Villa Treville’s sits on the rocks right on the water. Le Sirenuse has a new beach club, with complimentary boats at 10:30 and 12:30.

Which is better value?

Villa Treville, in my view. It is maybe slightly better value than even Il San Pietro.

Still deciding?

Tell me your dates and who is coming, and I will tell you which one fits and which room to ask for.
