Paros or Mykonos?

Paros has Mykonos’s good looks, better food, and about a third of the attitude — it’s where I send most people first. But Mykonos is the one with the international airport, the beach clubs, and some of the best hotels and meals of my entire Cyclades trip. Forty-five minutes of ferry separate two very different weeks.

Choose Paros

If you plan around dinner

Mykonos’s good looks, better food, a third of the attitude. Naousa’s restaurants on foot, sailing days to Despotiko’s empty beaches, and Parīlio — my most-booked hotel on the island, where families are genuinely welcome.

Choose Mykonos

If the scene is part of the trip

Beach clubs as the native art form, tables worth planning a trip around, and hotels from Kalesma’s composed design to Fouquet’s south-coast energy. Genuinely two islands — the loud one and the quiet one — if the bookings are made early.

The crossing is 45 to 60 minutes, which is why my full-arc route does both: Mykonos 2 → Paros 3 → Santorini 3. Fly into Mykonos, take the energy first, then let Paros slow the trip down. September rates are approximate entry-level starting points from my matrix — ask me for your dates.

The question behind the question

Where I send most people first: Paros.

For most couples — and every family — Paros is the better week: the food, the walkable evenings, the sailing day, and design hotels that cost meaningfully less than their Mykonos equivalents.

But if the version of the trip you’re picturing has a beach club in it, book Mykonos and book it properly — the island rewards planning more than any other in Greece, and with the tables and beds held early, it delivers substance the reputation doesn’t advertise. Or take the ferry and do both.
