Il Sereno Review — Torno, Lake Como, Italy

On my featured Italy page, Il Sereno is the modern counterweight to Como's grande dames: Patricia Urquiola's modern lakefront statement — floor-to-ceiling glass, a floating pool, and water-taxi arrivals at your suite. In my Lake Como proposal, its category is simply "Modern Luxury."

It's the most modern luxury stay on the lake: sleek architecture, glass opening straight to the water, and interiors built for design lovers. Every suite faces the lake head-on from the Torno shoreline, and arriving by water taxi at your own hotel is the kind of detail that defines the whole stay.

In my proposal I show two ways in: the Garden Lake View Suite — the larger room, around 860 square feet, which sees the lake just not head-on — and the Grand Suite Lago, which trades a little size for a private terrace and a direct, front-and-center lake view. If the view is everything, go Grand Suite; if space and value matter more, the Garden suite is hard to beat.
